Superman: Birthright is a 2004 12-part maxi-series of comics which retells Superman's origin, and retcons many elements of his backstory as presented in modern-age continuity; especially the miniseries The Man of Steel.

Page 2 of issue 10 appears to show a Thanagarian Snare Beast.

Things that were reintroduced (previously cancelled by The Man of Steel reboot) : Superman's costume being once again made from Kryptonian materials that are as durable as Superman himself and equally lose their durability under Kryptonite or Red Sun light or from being treated by heat vision (added weakness to the costume and to Kal-El himself), Lex Luthor as a young man lived in Smallville and Clark knew him but then after failed experiment he lost his hair (added pre-accident Lex being narcissist instead of selfless and kind like in pre-Crisis Earth 1 continuity)

Things that were introduced into overall mainstream canon : S-symbol originating and coming from Krypton (first time in overall history it was introduced in The Adventures of Superman (radio) (shield itself, it was never stated if "S" letter was painted on it before arrival on Earth) and in Superman: The Movie , Kryptonite augmenting capabilities of humans a concept which was part of origin Jerry Siegel's prototype for Kryptonite which was in unrelease K-Metal from Planet Krypton story which was discovered in the first place by Mark Waid through DC's archives, although unlike Siegel's concept it didn't give abilities equal of Superman (but maybe with enough exposure and time it would have) but just slightly boosted user's strenght and also intellect (which is also similar to the way first ever "Superman" created by Jerry Siegel Bill Dunn received his powers in Reign of the Super-man, similar to sun crystals from "The Movie" Kryptonite shard in this version was a sort of hard drive containing information from planet Krypton and even allowed Lex Luthor to peer into very moment before Krypton completely exploded, due to Lex Luthor's tampering with Kryptonite shard Jor-El and Lara were allowed to see their son as a fully grown Superman on Earth making it The first time within Superman's origin story (but not within overall stories as Pre-Crisis Earth-1 comics had plots where Jor-El could forsee Kal's faith on multiple planets via perfectly accurate computer simulations, or stories in which Jor-El himself somewhow traveled to Earth and met people who already knew his son as Superboy or Superman) when both of his parents actually knew that his rocket landed safely and he lived at least 20+ on Earth.
