George Reeves

George Reeves (born George Keefer Brewer, January 5, 1914 - June 16, 1959) was an American actor best known for portraying Superman/Clark Kent in the film Superman and the Mole Men, and later in the TV series Adventures of Superman and has had minor roles in such classics as Gone With the Wind and From Here to Eternity.

In 1959, Reeves was found dead in his home from a gunshot wound to the head days before he was to be married. While the death was officially ruled a suicide, controversy has brewed for years over suspicions of foul play, as Reeves' fingerprints weren't found on the gun. The circumstances of Reeves' death led to the superstitious belief in a Superman Curse, whereby bad things are believed to happen to the careers and/or personal lives of those who portray Superman or are otherwise involved in Superman adaptations.

Reeves' life and the mysterious circumstances around his death were the center of the 2006 film Hollywoodland. He was portrayed by Ben Affleck.

A CGI version of his Superman appears briefly in The Flash (2023) alongside other versions of the character.
