New 52 Continuity[]

Tyson lead a team of astrophysicists from around the world to focus their telescopes on the probable location of Krypton, which, luckily, was 27 light-years away. He met with Superman at the planetarium when the images had been compiled, and Superman was able to witness the destruction of his home planet. ("Star Light, Star Bright")

Real Life[]

Neil Tyson with comic

The real life Tyson holds up the Superman comic in which he appears.

Tyson is a real astrophysicist and makes appearances in science documentaries, comedy shows such as The Colbert Report, and will be hosting his own continuation of Carl Sagan's Cosmos.

He teamed up with DC Comics to choose a real location in the universe for the planet Krypton in the New 52 continuity. That location was revealed to Superman in Action Comics 14, in a story that Tyson himself guest stars in.
