Gretchen Kelly is a reoccurring character on the TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. She was Lex Luthor's personal physician who became obsessed with bringing Lex back to life after his death.
Dr. Kelly's specialty is medicine, but she also demonstrates considerable scientific expertise in non-medical fields, including explosives.
Though Kelly is never shown with Luthor until after his death, it is heavily implied that she was one of the many woman he had a brief, casual sexual relationship with; in the episode "The Phoenix" she embraces him from behind and he addresses her as "my dear".
After Luthor's death, his body is stolen by his ex-wife Arianna Carlin and entrusted to Kelly's care. Kelly is convinced that she can revive Luthor, but it takes considerable time for her procedure to work. In the meantime, in the episode "A Bolt from the Blue", she makes the chance discovery that Superman's powers can be transferred by electricity, and succeeds in giving herself Superman's powers. However, Superman and Resplendent Man team up to strip Kelly's powers away from her, and during the fight Luthor's life support devices are wrecked, causing his vitals to flatline. Only with great difficulty is Kelly able to recover his spark of life.
In "The Phoenix", Kelly succeeds in resurrecting Luthor and tries to help him rebuild his empire. Kelly holds a self-sacrificing love for Luthor which is free of jealousy: She shows no animosity towards his ex-wife Arianna, and even appears mildly fond of her, and though she hates Lois Lane, she makes clear that this is not because Lex is in love with Lois, but because Lois rejected him. However, Kelly's faith that Lex would never hurt her after all she did to bring him back to life proves tragically misplaced. When Kelly tries to stop Lex from saving Lois, he murders Kelly by shoving her into a high voltage fuse box.
