Ethan is a human love interest of Supergirl. She met him on Earth shortly after arriving at Midvale School, where he was employed as the groundskeeper. The witch Selena magically interfered in their relationship, as she lusted after him. Selena invited him to her coven on the basis that she wanted his professional advice as a groundskeeper how to decorate her home with flowers. She offered him a beer that was dosed with a love potion. However, Selena's spell backfired in that the potion knocked out Ethan. While she tried to look for a counterspell, Ethan awoke and wandered off in a stupor.
