Brutal Youth

Lois and Clark are interrupted by H.G. Wells on their wedding night. Wells warns them that they must go back in time to break a curse put on their past lives; otherwise, Lois will die of a terminal disease after they consummate their marriage.

Plot[]

The newlywed Lois and Clark spontaneously decide to have sex for the first time in their apartment rather than on their honeymoon in Hawaii, but are interrupted by H.G. Wells knocking on their door. Wells explains that while in the future, he obtained a device which tracks souls through time, proving reincarnation is real. Moreover, Lois and Clark's souls are consistently linked through history, with the two of them meeting and falling in love in every one of their incarnations. The problem is that a curse has been placed on their love, causing tragedy every time their incarnations consummate their marriage. As proof, he shows them a newspaper from a few days in the future reporting Lois's death from a mysterious illness.

With their consent, Wells uses his new device to take Lois and Clark back into their earliest incarnations which were subject to the curse: Clark becomes Sir Charles, a knight who secretly operates as the outlaw The Fox (an obvious equivalent of Robin Hood, as Clark surmises), and Lois becomes Lady Loisette (an equivalent of Maid Marian). They discover that their souls are not the only ones which are linked; Perry White, Jimmy Olsen, Martha and Jonathan Kent, and Tempus all have incarnations near to them. Lois and Clark assume their old roles just as The Fox springs a trap to capture Baron Tempos (Tempus's incarnation, an equivalent of Prince John), free Lady Loisette from his clutches, and send Tempos home in defeat. In his Sir Charles identity, Clark confirms that this is the incident which triggered the curse; out of vindictiveness, Baron Tempos ordered a sorcerer in his employ to place the curse upon them unless The Fox is soon found and defeated and Lady Loisette marries Tempos so that he can assume the throne.

Wells proposes that they deliberately lose to Tempos so that he will not go through with the curse. Clark balks at the idea of sacrificing Sir Charles and Lady Loisette's happiness, but Lois, impatient to consummate their marriage, pleads with Clark to agree to Wells's plan. The Fox confronts Baron Tempos and deliberately loses a swordfight with him. Lois realizes she cannot bear to see Clark killed in any incarnation, so she offers Tempos complete fidelity in exchange for sparing his life. Sir Charles is exiled, Lady Loisette is married to Baron Tempos, and Lois and Clark return to their time.

As a result of the changes they made to the timeline, the curse has been averted, but Tempus is king, and Lois is engaged to marry him. Wells hypothesizes that their actions caused the balance to sway in favor of evil across incarnations, and that they can restore their present by going back to an intermediate incarnation, one where they can defeat Tempus without risk of being cursed.

They select an Old West incarnation, in which the Lone Rider (Clark) is being lynched by Tempus Tex (Tempus) in order to coerce Lulu (Lois) to marry him, while the sheriff (Jimmy) is too meek to stop him. The sheriff whispers to Clark that he should whistle for his horse; Clark does so and rides off with Lois. However, Wells overhears from the locals that Tempus Tex is holding Lulu's parents hostage. Lois agrees to marry Tempus Tex in order to buy time while Clark and Wells try to rescue her parents. Clark notices that the wedding photographer has a wire running from his camera to a guarded shack, and suspects it is a trigger to blow up Lulu's parents. With Wells acting as a distraction, Clark knocks out the guards and frees Lulu's parents.

Clark then challenges Tempus Tex to a gunfight. Lois knocks down the distracted Tempus, and the sheriff arrests him. Lois and Clark return to the present to find all is back to normal, minus the curse. They return to their apartment and make love for the first time.
